More thoughts on Connection & Worksheet on "Purpose"

Hello Friends,

I hope this message finds you well! 🌞

Here we are halfway through August and the theme of "CONNECTION" has never seemed more poignant & necessary as we see Covid numbers shoot up for a second wave in many of our towns and as we witness more divisiveness and polarization on and offline. 😳

Macmillan Dictionary explains the origins of the word as such:

Connect came into English in the 15th century, derived from the Latin 'conectere' meaning 'join together', which in its turn was formed from 'com', meaning 'together', and 'nectere', meaning 'to tie or bind'.

These days, we strive to join together with others on a personal level through facebook or at physically distanced social gatherings. We'll certainly discuss that in the days ahead however, today, I'd like to explore what "Connection" means on a professional level.

And before we look at what connection might mean "in the moment" - as we livestream shows, for example - I'd like to "zoom out" and discuss the notion of "connection" in terms of an artist's vocation and purpose!

CONNECTION IS THE VERY ESSENCE OF OUR JOURNEY

I have yet to meet an artist who doesn't care deeply for the world, for its beings and for our collective good! This translates most often as connection - the "joining together" of consciousness and experience. You may have heard your music was "moving" or someone "resonated" with your message? The music you put out in the world IS received. It leaves a mark. You are a part of every person you have met - and thanks to technology, you are a part of many people you have yet to meet! That's quite humbling to think about!

CONNECTION IS EXPRESSED IN OUR PURPOSE

Our PURPOSE expresses the nature of our connection with others. What does that connection look like? Feel like? And in having had an impact on those who receive our contribution, how does that influence them? What ripples do we create as we skip a stone or two across the still waters?

In business, there's a lot of talk about "Vision" and 'Purpose" and consultants are paid dearly to craft a clever statement! As creators, we need substance to express the essence of who we are and our reasons for joining together with others.

Strategic Career Planning usually begins with expressing our "What For?". If you'd like to work on that, you'll find a resource sheet with a few brainstorming exercises around your Purpose.

You'll find that and other resources in a new folder I've set up just for Members! I've included quotes in there as well and you'll see it fill up in the weeks ahead.

I invite you to reflect on your purpose and the connections you want to experience on your journey! Please feel free to share your thoughts in comments or in our facebook group. I also welcome your messages and emails - I cherish my connection with YOU!

Have a super week ahead!

xo Nat
